O'Neill Packaging Interview- Lauren Parkin

As I was interested in how other brands use their packaging I went back into the O'neill store and asked the staff a few questions about their packaging.

What kind of bags or packaging do you use?We use simple paper bags with the O’neill logo on it.

Do you use tissue paper to wrap your products in if asked by the consumer? No we don’t use tissue paper, only high end luxury brands tend to do that. People interested in sports don’t tend to care about tissue paper and it’s also a waste of money when it’s not needed.

Do you gift box products if asked by the consumer? No, most of the people who shop here are buying for themselves or very rarely ask for gifts to be wrapped or boxed.

After asking these questions I now know that there is no point in designing tissue paper for wrapping as the target market don’t really care about they purchases being wrapped, this will also help Dece save money on packaging which means they are able to give more money to the women in Romania. I also know that using paper of card for packaging is the right thing to do as it fits in with our earthy and ethical feel, as well as other similar brands are using it so if other brands use similar packaging it must be successful. Athough O’neill don’t offer gift boxing as an option, I think that Dece could do this as an option as their products are more likely to be bought as gifts as well as people just buying for themselves.
