Logo Development - Jennie Clark

Following the requirements for the logo which i wrote up previously, I took some of my favourite sketched ideas to digitalise them. Below are my outcomes.

The designs above use the idea of suggesting a house in the logo. I did this by using the simple shape of a pointed roof and incorporating it into a shape with the text. I chose a simple but bold typeface for the word Dece - 'Code Bold'. I also explored splitting the word up as the word 'why' in Romanian is actually 2 words - 'De Ce'. However, I do think these designs are slightly too simple, and i want the logo to include a very recognisable shape.

I then took the pointed roof shape forward and developed it into more of a ribbon shape, incorporating more colour, and the strapline of 'Fashioning Hope' to see what this would look like when paired with the logo. I kept the same typeface as i think this is very suitable for the feel of the brand we want to portray. It is a very round, simple typeface, which is well suited to the concept we are creating for Dece and one that will also appeal to the target market. The top left design is my favourite as it incorporates the ribbon into the text. I think there is too much going on in the other designs - i want to keep the design more simple than this.

When i sketched out my first designs for the logo, the idea that i liked the most was the idea of having two objects linking. The idea behind this is to portray the real sense of community that is a huge part of the Dece brand. I used two 'D's to create the linking objects. I think this as a shape works really well. It is strong and recognisable shape that works well on its own and also inside a circle. I prefer the designs inside the circles as it reiterates the community feel of the brand. This as a logo is also very different to any of the competitors' logos which is great as it makes it more memorable to the viewer. As an emerging company, the Dece brand needs to be memorable and differentiate itself from its competitors. This idea would also pair very well with some of the brand concepts we are developing as a group.

I showed the all of the logo designs to the group and we mutually agreed that the linking Ds logo is the strongest idea. I will now take this idea forward and develop it until we agree on a final design.
