Brochure Cover Mock Up - Jennie Clark

To enable myself to fully visualise what the chosen cover of the brochure will look like, i have made a scaled down version of the cover. Making mock ups is very important, (1) To be able to visualise the design, and (2) To see any problems there are with the design so that alterations can be made before the final print. I simply printed the chosen designs onto a medium weight paper, then constructed the brochure as it would be full size. Below are some photos of the mock up.

When making this mock up, i realised that there are a few problems with the design. I will need to make appropriate adjustments before the final is ready.

One very obvious problem is that the fold out part (page with mountain scene on it) does not fit inside the front cover properly at its current size. Currently, the covers do not close together as they are exactly the same size. This section of the cover needs to have a few millimeters shaved from its length so that it fits inside the cover properly, between 3 and 5mm seems appropriate. This also means that for the pages of the brochure to fit inside the cover, they also need to be decreased in size. I will decrease their size by the same mm amount as the cover when i decide what this amount will be.

I also noticed that parts of the cutout are quite thin and flimsy. This means that it is prone to folding and tearing easily. The solution to this to ensure that the final cover is printed onto a rigid enough card to support these parts of the cutout. I think a medium-heavy weight card will be appropriate for this.

If i make these adjustments, then the cover will look exactly as planned.
