Brochure Cover & Brochure Plan - Jennie Clark

BROCHURE COVER

I then went on to design the front cover of the brochure. This has to be invitational and make the user want to pick it up and read it. Below are a few sketches i did of ideas for the cover.

I have decided to go with the idea of a cutout cover. This involves the 'D's of the logo being cut from the cover to reveal an image underneath. This will help create interest around the brochure. When part of an image can be seen underneath a cutout, naturally people will want to see what the image is below. This will encourage people to open the covers of the brochure. When the cover is open, on the opposite page to the image (i.e back of the front cover), the start of Chris' illustrations will be seen, and this will encourage the user to open the brochure further.

After choosing this idea for this cover, i then went on to develop the design further. Below are some developments which i designed.

CHOSEN DESIGN

In each of these designs, the 'D's of the logo represent the cutout, and the mountain scene behind represents the image that will be used on the page behind the front cover. The chosen cover is the last design.

I chose this design for multiple reasons:
  • Brown paper, organic background - This style really matches with our brand identity. It will differentiate the brochure from competitor's brochures. It will give the viewer an idea of the style of the brand just from looking at the front cover.
  • White circle - This bright circle encasing the logo is bright and eye-catching. This is part of making the front cover invitational and designing for it to stand out against others.
  •  Cutout - As explained in the post about the format, the cutout arouses interest and makes the user want to open the front cover to see the image behind.
The other designs seemed less appropriate in the colours and backgrounds that were used.

BROCHURE PLAN

Below you can see a rough plan that i have written up for the brochure. It gives a rough idea of the types of pages i want to include and how many of each type. As i start designing the brochure, these may change, some will be added and some taken away. I wrote this as i wanted some sort of guide to work by whilst designing.
