Developing Drawings - Chris

I've decided to work up in scale in order to really focus on line quality and paint textures. Working at A3, I can really define the lines how I want. Thicker lines will also appear stronger than thinner lines when scaled down, which has been a definite consideration as it's very likely that these images will be scaled down in certain places/contexts as well as at larger sizes. I think the line achieved below, whilst appearing rough and messy, has a certain softness to it from the grey highlights, which lends to the emotion that comes through from the boy's expression.

I've also decided to work standing up, with the paper on the wall, so that I could add paint drip detail, again, lending to the 'free' vibe. In these two figurative illustrations (above and below), I wanted to produce something that the consumer could see themselves in, and so again decided to aim for them to look semi realistic. I used slightly thinner lines for the girl's face in order to maintain the feminine look to her features.

I've created these elements by sponging paint onto paper for an interesting texture and combining them with 'loose' sketches. I wanted to capture the look and feel of painty/inky stamps but have an amount of precision in the shape so that the shapes can appear fairly bold and not interfere too much with elements laid above the.
I recreated the Romanian aerial map view with a more loose shape as I felt it appeared more honest and genuine that way. It also lends to the hand made ethic/theme present in the brand.

This is aiming to portray snowboarding as a sport and lifestyle to add context to the images of DECE's target audience or 'You' as our campaign is putting it.

Similarly, I've tried to portray the Surf sport/lifestyle in a slightly more abstract shape.

As these images are to be printed directly onto brown paper/card for our, I spent a while tweaking colours and test printing in order to achieve what the group and I are after.
