Brochure Format - Jennie Clark

After writing the brief for my brochure, I then went on to sketch out some ideas for the format of the brochure.

As Dece is an emerging brand, it has to stand out from its competitors. This is why i decided that i did not want the brochure to be a standard A4 size. I want to create interest in the brand with the brochure, i want people to want to pick it up and read it. I have decided to go with a 210mm x 210mm square format with a fold out cover. A sketch of this idea can be seen below.

I chose this format for many reasons:
  • Square format differentiates the brochure from other brochures - It will stand out as being a different shape. This wil also help create interest around the brochure.
  • The fold out - As the viewer has to fold out the cover, this makes reading the brochure more interactive. It also means that they can't just flick through the pages straight off, they have to take a second to unfold the cover to get to the bulk of the brochure. I plan to display Chris' illustrations of the Dece story on these fold outs, so that the viewer is almost 'discovering' and unfolding the Dece story as soon as they pick up the brochure. It also means that the story is right there for the viewer to see, they don't have to search for it, it is unavoidable - this way, more of the target market will understand what Dece is about.
  • Suitable for the purpose - I feel that the design i want to do within the brochure will be best suited to a square format. The use of the circular logo and circular graphic devices naturally fit better within a square format.
